Hi, I'm Mo Helou

This is where it all started. I started Mobile Earwax Specialist in November 2022 with one car, on weekends, because patients kept asking for help and nobody was coming to them.

Founder and Principal Audiologist, Mobile Earwax Specialist, NeuroAudiology Australia and EarDoc.

From One Car to Five Clinics

I started my career at Bay Audio, and in my first year I was named Rookie Clinician of the Year out of 130 clinicians.

The same request kept coming up: patients asking me to remove their earwax, and the clinic didn’t offer it. So in November 2022 I started Mobile Earwax Specialist. I worked full time during the week and spent my weekends driving to patients’ homes and aged care facilities, with one car and one suction unit.

Demand grew faster than I expected. That led to NeuroAudiology Australia, and today we have five clinics across Sydney and a team of 10. Together we’ve looked after more than 5,000 patients and 10,000 ears.

Why Mobile Care Matters to Me

Some of the people who need ear care most are the ones least able to get to a clinic: older people, people with mobility issues, aged care residents and the carers looking after them.

Every visit still includes a proper look at the ear canal and eardrum, because microsuction should be done by someone who understands the whole ear, not just the wax. If we find something that needs more than wax removal, we tell you and we tell your GP.

What I Believe

  1. Test first, sell never. You’ll get honest advice and only what you need.
  2. Safe and gentle. Microsuction by a qualified audiologist, with no water syringing.
  3. Joined-up care. Your GP, ENT or neurologist gets a clear report.
  4. Explain everything. We show you your ears before and after, and explain what we found.

Where I Come From

I grew up and went to school in Tripoli, Lebanon. In Sydney I studied a Bachelor of Medical Science at Western Sydney University, then a Master of Clinical Audiology at Macquarie University, where my research looked at how the brain processes everyday conversation.

I’m an Accredited Audiologist and Full Member of Audiology Australia, trained in microsuction, irrigation and mechanical earwax removal, and I see patients in English and Arabic.

Things I’m Proud Of

  1. Rookie Clinician of the Year at Bay Audio, out of 130 clinicians.
  2. Being featured in Hearing Practitioner Australia in “The rise of cerumen removal”, a story about how this mobile service grew.
  3. Being appointed Strategic Advisor to Hearing Implants Australia.
  4. Being a trusted guest on 2GB, talking about earwax, hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo.
  5. Speaking at Audiology Australia conferences and serving on the 2025 national conference organising committee.

Giving Back: The EarDoc Hearing Foundation

On my first self-funded volunteer hearing mission I saw the need first hand, and I knew I wanted to keep doing this work.

In 2025 I founded the EarDoc Hearing Foundation, a registered health promotion charity. Our missions are self-funded: an ongoing hearing program for children in Lebanon, where I grew up, and a mission to Fiji in early 2026. For a child who can’t hear, everything is harder: learning to speak, school, making friends. A hearing test can change the direction of their life.

My Dream

I want ear and hearing care that doesn’t depend on where you live, how mobile you are or how well you know the system. Here in Sydney that means coming to you when you can’t come to us. Overseas it means more missions and more children tested, in Lebanon, the Pacific and wherever the need is greatest.

And I want to build a team strong enough to keep doing this long after it stops being about me.
